Clinton run Sunday Nov
23rd
WOW, what a interesting day, there where 10 machines and riders,
Terry and his wife from Pure Power, Glen and Holly also from Pure
Power, Chris Hardy from Schultz, Al a new GKAA member who took his
brand new Polaris, Dan who didn’t have such a good day, Don and his
wife from Williams Lake and myself. We left Kamloops at around 7:45
am and drove into Clinton where we meet our host from Pure Power.
From there we drove out to Kelly Lake and unloaded then up the Kelly
Lake road to a look out area that Dan knew about. Maybe 4” of snow
and deeper in some drifts, wind blowing but what a fantastic view,
the Costal mountains to the west and the Monashee mountains to the
east.
We then went down the mountain and into a forested area, great leaf
covered trails heading down towards the Fraser River, we stopped at
one of their favorite lunch spots and made a fire and cooked some
hot dogs. We then carried on down the trail and came out of the
forest area into a desert like terrain, this was a winding narrow
soft trail which headed onto a plateau over looking the Fraser.
Second fantastic view, Al was very happy with his first ride on his
new quad. I told him it may be awhile before it gets any better then
this.
Don and his wife as well as Glen and Holly headed back to the pick
ups for the journey home while the rest of us decided to explore a
little more. We headed south on some trails and again came out to
beautiful area over looking the Fraser from a different view. We
then started to head back when we came to another trial so we headed
up it and came to an area that was quite challenging, some of turned
around at that point and headed back to the pick ups. Terry, Chris
and Dan showed up at the pick ups a little while later but on only
two machines. As I wasn’t there I will try to describe what they
told me. Dan came to an area and his machine started to roll,
remember we are on the side of straight down mountain side. He tried
to stop his machine from going over but couldn’t so over it went.
They estimated close to 1000 ft, the comments where they didn’t
think a quad could bounce that high. Dan said wheels where breaking
off as well as the body, storage box etc. They lost complete site of
the quad when it went over a second hill. Thank goodness Dan jumped
off the machine and other then the palm of his hand was sore and a
torn jacket he’s OK. Some of us are going back next weekend to see
what if anything we can find.
A fantastic ride other then the ending. Sorry to Dan but I’m sure
he’ll be back
