Nov 30th Roll Over
Recovery Run
On Sunday we went out to Clinton to try to find Dan’s machine he
rolled last weekend. There was Terry and Glen from Pure Power,
Shane, Chuck, of course Dan and myself. We left Kamloops around 7:45
in the morning and headed to Clinton to meet Dan, eat then head out
to Kelly Lake. After unloading we all bundled up and headed out
towards the last place we last saw Dan’s quad, very soon after we
stopped and scaled down a bunch of cloths as it was much warmer then
last weekend. As we where heading down the trail Dan stopped and
picked up the cover for the winch release and figured his quad had
passed by this point. We headed down even further and we quickly
found his quad nestled in a little crevice very close to the river.
We had to hike down the last 200 yards to get to his machine, after
contemplating all the different scenarios Chuck brought out the 12
volt grinder and the decision was made to salvage what we could pack
out.
We spent the next three hours cutting unbolting and packing out what
we could at this time, we did have to leave the diffs as time was
running out. Strapped the engine to the Kymco that Terry had lent
Dan for the ride and Dan and I headed back to the pick up with the
engine etc. The rest of the guys went up to where Dan went over the
edge. By the way Dan told me he did go over the edge with the
machine and down about 25 ft but was able to grab a small shrub or
something to stop him. ( he should by a lottery ticket) The other
riders saw some of Dan’s personnel things that had fallen off his
machine and hiked down to get them. According to my GPS the machine
did tumble close to 1000 ft. in total before it came to rest.
We all finally made it back to the trucks and loaded up and you
probably thought that was the end of a great day. No we then noticed
the tire on Terry’s trailer was flat. Not a big problem with six
quads and tire repair kits, he was up and running in no time. The
roads where really socked in with fog, 20 to 30 kms, and of course
with a quad in the back of my pick up and two on my trailer my
headlights where pointed straight up. I don’t think that really
helped but it was entertaining. We got back to Kamloops around 6:30
and waited for Glen and his group. After a few calls we found out
they where sitting on the side of the highway missing a tire on his
trailer so they had to do a call out to John to come and get their
other tandem trailer and we all headed back. We loaded their quads
on my trailer and their trailer on the tandem and headed for home.
Another great weekend!
I really am impressed with all the guys that day. I mean for Terry
from Pure Power to lend Dan a machine, get it to Clinton, bring
tools and friends to tear this thing apart. Pack out everything is
really a testimonial as to what a great bunch of guys they are. I
just hope if I have a major problem their around. Congrats to all of
them.
