Scuitto Lake Ride Nov 9th 2008

Scuitto, Roche, Bleeker, and Campbell Lakes Round Trip

Sunday Nov 9th a few of us got together up above Kamloops in Barnheartvale for a ride around Scuitto, Roche, Bleeker, and Campbell Lakes. The day started out with a couple people meeting at the Petrocan and then making are way up to the drop site. Once we arrived a couple other members were already unloaded and having a pre-run chat. Everyone got there gear together and shook hands and introduced oneanother for those whom had not met yet. There was Nick, Rick, Les, Rosella, and Shaun from the GKAA and Allen and Gord from the Salmon Arm Nature Nomads. After a quick briefing from Nick we headed off down the trail. The 1st section of the trail was pretty fast. Nice open trail nothing to tight and cumbersome. We made it to our 1st stop about 1/2 hour to 40 minutes into the ride just so we could make sure everyone was OK and enjoying the ride so far. "So far so good!" we told Nick. So off we went again. From here the trip varied from slow rocky tight corner and a couple small hills nothing too fancy just exciting. We had a quick stop mid trail and the guys all had to have a look at Rosella's machine because she was having power issues (Having to pull start all the time, no electricity, sounded like a solenoid problem) Next stop was Scutto Lake where we decided to have lunch. Pretty lake lined with tree roots as you can see in the picture below. I asked "where's all this mud you guys were talking about"! Well i wish i hadn't asked because we hit it and there was a lot of it. And it wouldn't have been so bad for me if I had warn boots and lifted my feet up but I didn't so i paid for it later on. As we made are way through the trails we encountered a number of downed trees, big mud puddles, mud pits, rocky hills, bumpy rocky muddy sections and generally everything we could have ever wanted in a trip like that. We made a few more stops along the way but the pictures below tell the story of the terrain. We were only on the power line trail for 15 minutes of the 6hours we spent riding so you can imagine how fun the ride was (For those who think power line trails aren't fun...I however think they're just fine!). And since we were above the clouds we had sunshine the whole time! Thanks again Nick for an amazing ride! It could not have been more perfect!
